Once activated, the controller supplies current to the coil.
When current is passed through the coil, a strong magnetic field is generated in the magnetizer. This magnetic field acts on a nearby conductive metal part, such as a vehicle chassis or other metal structure, creating an electromagnetic field that moves in the opposite direction. This electromagnetic field generates eddy currents in the metal part, that is, eddy currents. The eddy currents produce a reaction torque that resists the direction of travel of the vehicle, resulting in a deceleration effect. This is the main working principle of eddy current retarder.
Specifically, the performance of the eddy current retarder is affected by many factors. First, the magnitude and frequency of the current in the coil will affect the strength and distribution of the generated magnetic field, thereby affecting the generation and distribution of eddy currents. Secondly, the conductive properties of the vehicle chassis or other metal structures will also affect the deceleration effect. In addition, the design, manufacturing accuracy and use environment of the retarder will also affect its performance.
Compared with the traditional mechanical braking system, the eddy current retarder has many advantages.
